Victorian Silver "Irene" Love Token Brooch

Regular price $400.00 CAD Sale

It's thought that love tokens originated as early as the 13th century. They are are coins where one side has been smoother down and then hand engraved. Sentimental "messages" could include a lover's initials or monogram, name, dates, or an image meant to remind or for luck. They were often bent to create a wave to try to prevent them from being used as currency.

This listing is for the pictured love token - the name "Irene", beautifully engraved on a very fine silver Canadian 50c Victorian coin.

This brooch measures 30.2mm in diameter and weighs 10.9g.  You will received the pictured item.
