Antique Victorian Mother of Pearl and Coral Figa Pendant

A beautiful example of Victorian protection talisman jewelry. Dating to the late 19th century, this spectacular "Mano Figa" amulet is beautifully hand-carved from a solid piece of iridescent mother of pearl, depicting the classic fist gesture traditionally worn across the Mediterranean to ward off the evil eye and bring good fortune.

What makes this piece truly exceptional is the dramatic, kinetic fringe of vivid orange-red natural coral branches hanging from the base of the hand. Coral was highly prized in the Victorian era as a powerful symbol of vitality, protection, and good health, creating a beautiful layered meaning when paired with the figa. The wrist of the hand is encased in a silver cuff fitting, accented by a tiny, bright blue turquoise bead that adds a lovely pop of contrast.

The hand itself measures about 32mm tall (without the bail) by 13mm wide at its widest point. Dropping down from the knuckles are seven individual coral branches suspended on wire loops, giving the entire piece a wonderful tactile movement when worn. Overall, it hangs approximately 58mm from the top of the cuff to the tips of the longest coral branches. The pendant has a very substantial, satisfying weight of 7.9g. It has been fitted with a new 10k gold jump ring bail at the top that easily glides onto your favorite chain. It remains in beautiful antique condition, preserving the genuine patina of its long life, including a small, historic dent on the top rim of the silver cuff.
