This Georgian c.1810 ring was crafted in 14k yellow gold (tests thereabout), without hallmarks, as was typical for the age. A central rectangular cut bright, foiled ruby sits surrounded by seed pearls set in a foliate design. Split shoulders are further set with seed pearls. Reeded shank. The central panel measures approximately 12.8mm  x 11.4mm.  Likely made in England.

Rings were foiled in the Geoogian era primarily to enhance the brilliance and color of gemstones, which was especially effective under candlelight. Foiling provided a reflective mirrored surface behind the gem, amplifying its natural shine and deepening its color. Care should be taken to avoid water and liquids to protect the foil.

This ring is a size 7 and weighs approximately 3.4g. A wonderful antique treasure.
