I have always been lured by the romance of lockets. When and where would the perfect one turn up? Which keepsake or photograph would get a coveted spot inside? It's the first piece I reach for when I'm about to leave home for a spell, to keep my loves near.
This lovely English early 20th century gold antique locket is set with a ruby surrounded by rose-cut diamonds in a starburst design. It would have been worn on a chain or a ribbon, close to the heart.
The locket measures 20mm tall (without the bail) x 16.3mm wide and weighs 2.5g. It is modeled in 15ct yellow gold, as marked on the reverse. Shows some dents and wear commensurate with age, one small diamond a later replacement. Locket snaps shut and closes securely. Inner fittings are gold, with the one on left loose if locket empty.
