A scarce box from the famed French jeweller Augis for Alphonse Augis' famous "Medaille d'Amour". Interior box reads:
"Car, vois-tu, chaque jour je t'aime davantage,
Aujourd'hui plus qu'hier et bien moins que demain. - Rosemonde Gérard Rostand"
(For, you see, each day I love you more,
Today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.)
- From Rosemonde Gérard's famous couplet from her poem, “Les Vieux” (“The Old Ones”), which she wrote to her husband in 1889.
This box measures 2 5/8" tall x 2 1/8" wide. It shows some light soiling commensurate with age and use.
