An epitome of elegance and the crown in a paste collector's jewel box - the Georgian paste rivière. Paste jewelry was worn by high society and royalty, including Marie Antoinette, Queen Elizabeth I, two King Charleses and Madame du Barry. Stones were foiled to catch the light and dazzle and dance during candlelit evenings.
This stunning French example features clear, bright foiled pastes set into silver, shimmering in domed closed back collet settings. Each setting's reverse has been swathed in a wash of gold, to prevent any silver tarnish from soiling clothing. It would have had a pendant, likely a cross, hanging from the centre paste.
This necklaces measures approximately 15.75" overall and has a push tab closure that closes securely. The set pastes graduate from 6.5mm to 9.5mm at the center largest, the closure at 7.7mm. It weighs approximately 31g. Marked on the tongue with 2 French boar discharge marks for silver. You will receive the pictured necklace.
