Antique Victorian Enamel Death's Head Memento Mori Ring - Size 6.5
Regular price$2,100.00 CADSale
Memento Mori or, "remember that you will die". Mourning jewelry was very popular during the 16th to 18th centuries and very much so for the Victorians. Those mourning the dead would wear jewelry which carried items or names belonging to the dead, or would wear reminders of their own mortality, reminders to live life to the fullest.
This rare Victorian era Death's Head ring dates to around the 1850s. It features turquoise cabochons surrounding an enameled skull in a 10k gold setting. The skull is sterling silver and has an opening in the back for a memento, such as hair. This ring is not hallmarked, which is common for its time, but it has been tested as 10k.
