Memorial for Alexia Christian

Regular price Sale

Alexia Christian was a 26-year-old mother of 2 who was arrested on April 30, 2015 by two officers who did not follow protocols after answering a call from a dispatcher who also failed protocol. Alexia died in the back of that police cruiser after officers fired 10 shots. They were parked just one block away from the Fulton County courthouse.

This bookmark has been handcrafted from sterling and fine silver. The 10 dots on the hammered stem lead up to a boulder opal, an alternative stone for April that is said to be able to bring out traits and characteristics to the surface for examination and transformation. The small silver balls represent tears, the two large represent Alexia's children and the space in the center represents the hole left in the hearts of those who love her. The sprig is for growth.

This piece was auctioned at  @metalsmithsforchange on Instagram alongside handcrafted pieces from 100 artists. All proceeds split between the Brennan Center For Justice, the Equal Justice Initiative and the ACLU.
