An epitome of elegance and the crown in a paste collector's jewel box - the Georgian paste rivière. Paste jewelry was worn by high society and royalty, including Marie Antoinette, Queen Elizabeth I, two King Charleses and Madame du Barry. Stones were foiled to catch the light and dazzle and dance during candlelit evenings.
This stunning example hails from circa 1820/30 and is likely French. Set in silver, bright white foiled pastes shimmer in domed closed back collet settings.
This necklaces measures approximately 15.5" overall and has a push tab closure that closes securely. The central paste measures 7.5mm and graduates to 6mm towards the closure. It weighs 22.7g.
