Lost To Sight To Thought How Dear! - a beautiful purple glass Tassie intaglio that serves as a beautiful reminder of someone not near.
James Tassie (1735–1799) was a Scottish engraver and modeler who made beautiful copies of agates and gemstones in molded glass. He is remembered for a particular style of miniature medallion heads, portraying the profiles of the rich and famous of Britain, and for making and selling large numbers of "Tassie casts" of engraved gems for collectors that are still prized today. His nephew, William, took over the business and his collection of seals after James' passing.
This motto is listed as #159 in the 1830 "A Catalogue of Mr. William Tassie's Extensive Collection of Impressions From Engraved Gems, Consisting of Devices and Emblems, With Mottos in Various Languages Made in Composition For Seals."
This Georgian Tassie intaglio is set in a new handmade 14k yellow gold claw setting and hangs from a new 18" 18k yellow gold chain.
The pendant measures 20.9mm wide x 16.5mm tall and weighs 12.3g. You will received the pictured necklace.
