A stunning moonstone festoon necklace dating from the lat Victorian period. The stones display excellent blue adularescence (the effect whereby they appear to glow from within when the light hits them) and they're mounted in fine gold settings. A particularly pretty example of the style.
Moonstone has been used in jewelry for civilizations. The Romans believed it came from the solidified rays of the moon. Both Romans and Greeks associated it with lunar deities such as Diana, Selene, Trivia and Hecate, the Queen of the Night. Known as the Traveler's Stone, it is especially protective of those who travel by night.
This Edwardian era riviere measures 17.75" (the moonstone section 4 1/8" wide) and weighs 8.6g. Flashy blue moonstones sit in golden bezels measuring approximately 7x9mm. Clasp was previously replaced. You will receive the pictured necklace.
