This late Georgian/early Victorian locket is beautifully and deeply chased with a floral motif around its border. I have added white rainbow moonstones for a pretty shaker effect.
Moonstone has been used in jewelry for civilizations. The Romans believed it came from the solidified rays of the moon. Both Romans and Greeks associated it with lunar deities such as Diana, Selene, Trivia and Hecate, the Queen of the Night. Known as the Traveler's Stone, it is especially protective of those who travel by night. Moonstone helps in attuning to the normal rhythms of the biological forces of one's body and to utilize natural energy cycles.
This locket measures 32mm wide by 40mm long (oval only, 52mm including the top). It is fashioned in unmarked 12-15k yellow gold (acid tested) and, along with the gems, weighs approximately 14.5g.
The locket opens by pushing on the glass on either the top or bottom, swiveling the inner frame, releasing the glass. Age commensurate with age and use, a few scratches & nibbles to the glass. Please view all photos. You will receive the pictured locket.
