Antique Georgian Emerald Green Paste Ring
This Georgian c.1820 ring was crafted in 9/10k yellow gold (tests thereabout), without hallmarks, as was typical for the age. Likely made in England. The face of the ring measures approximately 13.3mm x 13.1mm, with a foiled back bright green emerald in closed back setting surrounded by pearls - a popular design of the era.
Rings were foiled in the Georgian era primarily to enhance the brilliance and color of gemstones, which was especially effective under candlelight. Foiling provided a reflective mirrored surface behind the gem, amplifying its natural shine and deepening its color. Care should be taken to avoid water and liquids to protect the foil.
This ring is a size 6.25 and weighs approximately 3.3g. Likely made in England. A wonderful antique treasure.
