Reverse intaglios are made from a cabochon (domed)which has been carved from the back and then hand painted. The finished work is then mounted, often with mother of pearl at the back, into a setting. Various levels of quality were made in both rock crystal and glass, popularized in the Victorian era.
Here, a sailboat appears to be floating on water. Would be lovely converted to a pendant or simply worn as is. Perfect for the sailor or water-lover in your life.
