The buckle ring originated as the "garter" ring of the 16th century - they were formed like the badge of the Order of the Garter, with the buckle in the front, with the motto on the outside and a chosen posy inscription on the inside. During the Victorian era, the rings were made solid, then later, made to open with the loved one's name beneath the fastening. The buckle symbolizes binding loyalty and became a popular engagement ring or token of love.
This vintage buckle ring from about the 1940s features a patterned yellow gold band decorated with approximately 0.16ct of single cut diamonds on the buckle detail. It is 9.1mm thick, hallmarked for 14k and weighs 8.84g. It sits at a size 7 on a mandrel but fits smaller due to the width of the band, around 6.25 to 6.5. The Florentine finish is smooth due to wear on the sides and back of the ring. It can be sized by your jeweler. You will receive the pictured ring.
