This rare antique c. 1880s spinner charm is based on an age old game originating in France called "Effeuiller la Marguerite" or "he loves me/he loves me not". It features a lovely little enameled daisy with a symbolic petal falling off. The angled panels read:
- Il m'aime = He loves me
- Un peu = a little
- Beaucoup = a lot
- Passionnement = passionately
- Pas du tout = not at all
This charm was crafted in silver and is the first one we've come across hallmarked for its jeweller. This one was crafted by Mayer Martin GmbH - Mainz, Germany, founded in 1838. He handed over the company to his son Bernhard Albert Mayer (1866 - 1947). His youngest son, Martin Mayer (born in 1914) left Germany in 1938 when the company was confiscated and dissolved.
This charm measures 25 mm tall (not including the bail) x 10mm at its widest point and weighs approximately 3g. Hallmark for silver. You will receive the pictured charm.
