A beautiful 18th century sentimental, possibly betrothal, brooch with the words "Love and Happiness" above a beautiful sepia scene of a woman seated with a man holding her hand. Macerated hair, possibly of both people, have been used to create the tree and grass.
This Georgian locket in a beautiful navette, or "boat" shape, is set with a convex glass cover in a 14-15k gold brooch setting, the painting surrounded by split pearls. The locket opens from the back, which has a background of fabric, which would have likely held a lock of hair.
The pendant is not marked, as typical of the time, and measures approximately 34mm tall by 22.5mm across and weighs 6.9g. Wear commensurate with age and use. You could also have your jeweller add a hanging bail to convert this piece to a lovely pendant. You will receive the pictured locket.
