Antique Silver Cauldron Charm

Prix régulier Solde

Cauldrons used to be practical tools found in almost any home, both magic and mundane. However, the cauldron came to represent the Goddess and her womb, the process of transformation, often used in ritual to represent the water and fire elements.

This antique Edwardian sterling silver cauldron charm has a thistle crafted from connemara marble on the front, Scotland's national flower. Legend has it that, in the late 13th century, a sleeping party of Scottish warriors were saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the enemies trod barefoot on the spiky plant. His pained cry roused the slumbering warriors who vanquished the invaders and adopted the thistle as their national symbol. Throughout Celtic regions, the thistle represents bravery, devotion, durability, strength and determination.

This antique Edwardian sterling silver cauldron charm has a thistle crafted from Scottish agate on the front, Scotland's national flower. Hand chasing surrounds the central thistle, embellishing the cauldron, which stands 19mm high (without the handle and hanging bail) by 12mm at its widest and weighs 4g. It is suitable to wear as a pendant, fob or charm.

The hallmarks have mostly worn off but, a partial lion passant is visible (for sterling silver), part of the crowned lion (for London) and part of the makers mark (for J.C&S (Joseph Cook & Son). The date letter is missing but, these were typically made around 1910. It also has a registration number that shows this design was first registered in 1900.
