Ancients believed the ruby surpassed all other precious stones in virtue. It was considered a stone of nobility, the most magnificent of all gems, the queen of stones and the stone of kings. Revered in many cultures throughout history, the ruby has always been a symbol of passion, protection and prosperity. Throughout history, rubies were worn as charms to ward off plague and pestilence, warn its wearer of impending danger, keep one safe, and to banish sadness and foolish thoughts. It was reputed to bring its owner peace, drive away frightful dreams, restrain lust, and to help resolve disputes.
Today, the ruby's metaphysical properties actively stimulate the Base Chakra, increasing vitality and chi, the life-force energy, throughout the physical body and into the spirit. The fiery pinks to reds of rubies have always been associated with love, especially faithful passionate commitment and closeness.
This size 7/7.25 Edwardian ring features an old cut round ruby, approximately 0.71ct, sitting in a 9k gold setting. It is hallmarked for Chester, England 1912. The ruby has a few nibbles, visible with magnifying. A very pretty ring with wear commensurate with age. Wear it on its own or perfect for stacking.
