During the neoclassical period, the earliest of urns displayed ancient Greek and Roman scenes depicted in art. Derived from the Latin root “uro”, meaning “burn”, the urn came to represent the dearly departed in many mourning scenes - from dust to dust.
This urn has been fashioned entirely by hand. I have chosen to pair it with a foil backed rhodolite garnet - in China, a garnet was believed to represent a tiger’s soul, transformed into a precious red gem after the noble animal’s death.
The pendant measures 1" tall (without the bail) and 13/16" at its widest. Handcrafted from fine and sterling silver, it hangs from an 18" sterling silver rolo chain with my maker's mark attached. It has been oxidized and polished with a brush finish to enhance the details and give it an antique feel. I have left the back blank should you care to have your jeweler engrave a message or initials.
As always, I suggest to remove jewelry when bathing or swimming to avoid contact with water. That is especially so in the case of this stone as it is backed with foil.
