The mano cornuta ("horned hand") is an ancient Italian (particularly Southern Italian) apotropaic gesture and charm used to ward off the malocchio (evil eye) and bad luck. The gesture predates Christianity, with roots potentially tracing back to the Paleolithic period. It represents the horns of a powerful animal, symbolizing strength, fertility and protection against the envy of others, whether conscious or subconscious.
Performed by extending the index and pinky fingers while holding the middle and ring fingers down, it is often worn as jewelry - frequently in red coral, gold, or silver - to protect against envy and misfortune.  To be effective, the amulet should point downward or be held level.

This charm measures 22.3mm tall (without bails) x 6.5mm wide x 6.5. It hangs about 32mm overall. Each is set with approx. 0.015 natural diamond and 0.025 natural ruby.
