Georgian Mourning Locket - 15k

Normaler Preis $2,650.00 CAD Angebot

A haunting and popular image from the late 18th century is that of a woman with an anchor. This c.1800 Georgian polychrome painting locket depicts a woman dressed in neo-classical dress as the idealized depiction of woman, pointing towards the heavens and leaning on an anchor, a symbol of hope.  In the background, a ship sails away, symbol of a soul traveling away from their loved ones to the afterlife.

This Georgian locket is set with glass covers on both sides.  The locket opens from the back, which has a background of fabric, which would have likely held a lock of hair.

The pendant is set in 15k yellow gold (not marked, as typical of the time) with 2 convex glass pieces on each side. It measures approximately 39.4mm tall (not including hanging portion) by 30.6mm across and weighs 13.6g. Wear commensurate with age and use. There is some loss around edges of painting.  You will receive the pictured locket.
