"It is the very error of the moon; she comes more nearer earth than she was wont, and makes men mad." - William Shakespeare

Moonstone has been used in jewelry for civilizations. The Romans believed it came from the solidified rays of the moon. Both Romans and Greeks associated it with lunar deities such as Diana, Selene, Trivia and Hecate, the Queen of the Night. Known as the Traveler's Stone, it is especially protective of those who travel by night.

A museum-quality survivor of the Roaring Twenties. At an exceptional and versatile length, this "opera length" or "flapper length" necklace is the pinnacle of Art Deco glamour. It features a rhythmic, continuous line of hand-selected, graduated oval cabochon moonstones and was designed to be worn long or doubled into a tiered masterpiece. Unlike standard white moonstones, the ones in this necklace exhibit a striking blue adularescence - a ghostly blue flash that dances beneath the surface. Each stone is cradled in an open-back sterling silver bezel, a hallmark design of the 1920s meant to maximize light.

The necklace measures 44" and weighs approximately 25.7g with silver bezels of varying sizes, averaging 6.7mmx7.6mm. It also features its original Art Deco 'Sister Hook' clasp - a rare, scissor-action security fastener favored by 1920s jewelers for its reliability and sleek, low-profile design. Extremely versatile - can be worn single, doubled or tripled (depending on size of neck) or wrapped as a bracelet. Wear commensurate with age and use.
