Normaler Preis $3,475.00 CAD Angebot

An incredible post-medieval (c. AD1500-1600) posy ring that reads "My Hart You Have" on the inner band.  This special ring comes with a treasure report issued by the British Museum.  It was found in Kent in 2013.

It was believe that the significance of these engraved messages was amplified by wearing them against the skin. This ring comes on a silver rolo chain so you can weaer it on your finger or close to your heart.

Posy rings (also spelled posie, posey or poesy) derived their name from the French word “poésie,” or poem, because of the short sayings which were engraved on their inner surface. In England and France, these rings were popular from the latter half of the Middle Ages, the 15th to 17th century. In medieval times, with religion popular in everyday life, it was common for religious text to appear on the rings alongside romantic expressions or even expressions of friendship, thereby functioning as both a religious talisman and a gift of love. The language used in many early posy rings was Norman French, with French, Latin and English used in later times. The quotations were often from contemporary courtship stories. Posies were also given to show regard or as a gift.

This particular posy is crafted in silver, with the inscription "My Hart You Have" on the inner band. Dating from middle of the 16th century to mid 17th. The band is approximately 5.1mm wide and the ring weighs 2.5g. It is a size 8.25. Old solder repair by a previous owner. Wear commensurate with age.  You will receive the pictured ring along with provenance paperwork from The British Museum pursuant to the Treasure Act 1996 Code of Practice.
