An antique c.1900 ring, featuring a sparkling old mine cut diamond in a classic belcher setting.
Named after Thomas Belcher, an American jewelry designer from the 19th Century, the belcher setting features prongs cut out the shank of the ring. The shape of the prongs give it a flower like appearance. This type of setting keeps the gem low and protected, sitting flush with the rest of the ring. A favorite style from the 1800s that was still popular into the 20th century due to its comfort and wearability.
The cushiony diamond weighs an estimated 0.43ct, HI, I3, with the entire ring weighing 4.3g. The diamond shows some wear across the crown, with a chip at one edge. This ring is a size 6. It is hallmarked for 18k and the goldsmith, the Caron Bros of Montreal, Canada. It can be resized by your jeweller.
